once again thanks. Just a bit on Lt Lyon mentioned as killed on the 8th May.

Lyon, Lieut. Walter Scott Stuart Lyon, b. 1 Oct 1866 North Berwick. Ed Haileybury College & Balliol College, Oxford. Graduated in Law at Edinburgh University and joined the Royal Scots before the War. He arrived in Belgium at the end of Feb 1915 and was killed near Ypres on 8 May 1915 with the 9th Battalion. Commemorated on Panel 11 on the Menin Gate, Ypres – said to be the first Scottish advocate killed in action since Flodden.

An extract from one of his poems - you will be able to read more on websites I am sure - let me know if you would like me to send you more.

You fell on Belgian land,

And by a Frenchman’s hand

Were buried. Now your fate

a kinsman doth relate.

Titled: On a Grave in a Trench Inscribed “English Killed for the Patrie”, 16 April 1915, from “A Deep Cry”.

Hi Alan,

I too have done a little research on Lyon. I do have a photo if it would be of use to you.

Do you have a copy of his book 'Ypres at Easter' or 'Easter in Ypres' or something similar?

I have been looking for a copy of this for a while now and have had no luck until now.

I would be very interested to hear from you in regards to Lyon - he was in fact the reason I bought the book in the first place.

All the best,

Tim

thanks - yes a photo would be good.

Did I tell you that he was killed on the same day as my grandfather.

I had not heard about his book.

Are you in the UK and tried the inter library loan?
