Samuel Kuhn Posted 15 April , 2021 Share Posted 15 April , 2021 My Grand Uncle, Johann Kuhn, served, I believe, as an NCO with the 2 Maschinengewehr Kompanie of the Colbergsches-Grenadier-Regiment Graf Gneisenau [2.Pommersches] Nr.9 during the Great War. According to the documentation I've been able to uncover so far he was "severely wounded" on 16 Nov 1916. I may be misreading the records however. I'm trying to understand what battles his regiment fought in and the likely place that he was wounded. If anyone can assist me I would be forever grateful. Below is a photo of Johann and photos of the casualty lists (Verlustlisten 1. Weltkrieg, page 16305: Kuhn Johann (Pusteinik, Warschau) with the link here: http://des.genealogy.net/search/show/5100215 Thank you so very much, Samuel Kuhn Montreal, Canada
AOK4 Posted 15 April , 2021 Share Posted 15 April , 2021 Hello, No he was not wounded on 16 November 1916, the information that he was wounded was published on this date. The wounding must have happened a few weeks before at least. The unit had been fighting on the Narajowka on the Eastern Front since September 1916, he was probably wounded there. The names that are marked "gefallen" in the same unit and list have all died on 15 October 1916 near Swistelniki according to the regimental history. I would assume that Johann Kuhn would have been wounded in that area and around that time as well. There was a heavy (unsuccessful) Russian attack that day. The fighting was less during the following days. Jan
GreyC Posted 15 April , 2021 Share Posted 15 April , 2021 Hi, on the photo he has the rank of Gefreiter. There are two regimental histories, have not found any online though: J. Hansch, F. Weidling: "Das Colbergsche Grenadier-Regiment Graf Gneisenau (2. Pommersches) Nr. 9 im Weltkriege 1914-1918", Oldenburg 1929, G. Stalling, 686 Seiten. Döring von Gottberg: "Das Grenadier-Regiment König Friedrich Wilhelm IV. (1. Pommersches) Nr. 2 im Weltkriege" - Berlin 1928: Kolk, (Erinnerungsblätter deutscher Rgt. Band 256). I have looked into the history of Grenadier-Regiment 9 and wrote in short what there is to be found there. There are a few pages about the fighting on the Narajowka. GreyC Posted 15 April , 2021 Share Posted 15 April , 2021 Hi Jan, yes, strange. It was listed under Grenadierregiment 9, though. https://genwiki.genealogy.net/Gren.R_9 GreyC
