emrezmen Posted 14 April , 2021 Share Posted 14 April , 2021 (edited) Those walls seem a bit unnecessary (for a drone photo see: twitter.com/gokhanproject/status/1381996546879803398) but the monument itself is just lovely. Can't wait to visit. Thanks for sharing. Edited 14 April , 2021 by emrezmen

egbert Posted 30 April , 2021 Share Posted 30 April , 2021 I do hope it is the final caribou memorial though. I am just thinking if each WW1 regiment Allied and German places 6 regimental memorials on the former frontlines, than ......... ....btw how many active combat regiments were employed ? sherren Posted 4 January , 2022 Share Posted 4 January , 2022 Hi, Re emrezen's post back in April regarding the walls around the new Newfoundland Park memorial. Our original design did not incorporate any walls however a request to do so came from the Gallipoli National Park Directorate (Çanakkale Savaşları Gelibolu Tarihi Alan Başkanlığı) and specifically, the scientific committee that needed to evaluate the project. In retrospect we are fortunate (and appreciate) that they did make this request as evidenced by the recent damage done by boars to Beach and other cemeteries (picture below). It is nice to read the positive comments regarding the memorial. It is ironic that the first site to see action by the Royal Newfoundland Regiment in WWI was the last to be memorialized. michaeldr Posted 24 June , 2022 Author Share Posted 24 June , 2022 A year on and the Gallipoli Association's 'Hidden Gallipoli Tour' in May 2022, brought us to the Suvla Caribou. The plants and shrubs have now established themselves and the Newfoundland memorial looks as though it could have been there forever. All in all, a magnificent addition to this battlefield's memorials.
