David_Blanchard Posted 9 April , 2021 Share Posted 9 April , 2021 I am looking for the name of the MDS used by both 11 Northern Division and 51 Highland Division during the summer of 1917. Curiously most RAPs ADS and Collecting posts are named on the reports of ADMS of both 11 and 51 Divisions but not the Corps MDS. This is given as a map reference only A.23.c.2.9 I have checked this on tmapper and appears to be north east of Poperinge, but near no real settlement. Any help appreciated. mebu Posted 10 April , 2021 Share Posted 10 April , 2021 David perhaps it was a tented or hutted camp, not at any named village or farm? A look at the map puts it close to a main rail siding, which may be logical? Peter
David_Blanchard Posted 10 April , 2021 Author Share Posted 10 April , 2021 (edited) Hi Peter I have been helped on twitter by Chris Baker- it is Gwalia Farm MDS- I couldn’t find it on tmapper because it doesn’t access maps in 1918, and it is named on these later maps. I still find it surprising that other medical facilities are named on the ADMS report but not the MDS. But thanks very much for responding to my question. David_Blanchard Posted 11 April , 2021 Author Share Posted 11 April , 2021 Thanks, White Star I guess none of these maps are on McMaster or the Scottish University sites? Might have to buy linesman. David
tootrock Posted 11 April , 2021 Share Posted 11 April , 2021 The location is shown on the McMaster map PC0013WW1MAP NW1 (Poperinghe - Boesinghe) Trenches corrected using information received up to 18.7.18 Martin
