BradleyWalker Posted 27 March , 2021 Share Posted 27 March , 2021 Hello everyone, Just wondering if anyone had any information on this man, my great great grandfather, Lance Corporal Michael York. He was born on 23rd August 1874 in Newton Heath, Manchester. Unfortunately, I don't yet know what regiment he was in, however if I had to guess it would be manchester or maybe east Lancashire. The photo looks as if it's taken in a trench, probably in France or Belgium. Many thanks Bradley Walker
Terry_Reeves Posted 27 March , 2021 Share Posted 27 March , 2021 The photograph looks like it was taken in the 1970’s. The beret, chevron and the heavy duty woollen pullover are the giveaways. TR
Dai Bach y Sowldiwr Posted 27 March , 2021 Share Posted 27 March , 2021 (edited) Hi Bradley, This doesn't immediately strike me as a Great War era photograph. Edit. As Terry says. What does the caption say? Edited 27 March , 2021 by Dai Bach y Sowldiwr

TR Hi Terry, I did wonder whether it could've been more modern, however he died in 1958 so I don't think it was in the 1970s
WhiteStarLine Posted 27 March , 2021 Share Posted 27 March , 2021 The long hair (for a soldier) kind of gives it away as well as the Green Howard jumper - we thought you'd really arrived when the Q Store issued you one of those.

BradleyWalker Posted 27 March , 2021 Author Share Posted 27 March , 2021 I agree with you on the uniform looking more modern, but don't think it was 70s as he died in 1958. He would've been too old to fight in WW2 as well. I'm really not so sure now
Terry_Reeves Posted 27 March , 2021 Share Posted 27 March , 2021 Bradley, it is definitely 1970’s also take a look at his age! TR
ss002d6252 Posted 27 March , 2021 Share Posted 27 March , 2021 As others have mentioned the picture is after WW1 and most likely far later As it's well outside the area of our time period the post has been locked. Craig
