Dear all

Another day, another quest! I have attached some picture of helmets and a uniform of which I am trying to identify the unit. Can somebody help me out? I have been browsing the web, but I have the feeling I am not getting there.

Thank you!!IMG_20210316_103848.jpg.4ebc4a647be1710cf4c98fb75cd90995.jpgIMG_20210316_105441.jpg.4f8226d8c75b493b50e948e29e84bcc4.jpgIMG_20210316_105040.jpg.958d0b7f020630559470bead9d443a98.jpgIMG_20210316_105031.jpg.3c865332c1ef0096165861ed40242931.jpgIMG_20210316_104945.jpg.76ddf12c51134ddf1c94369c041679bf.jpg

The only helmet I can help with is the helmet with the rose emblem, the 55th Division (West Lancashire), whose motto was, "They Win or Die, Who Wear The Rose of Lancashire".

"NF" I should imagine is Northumberland Fusiliers.

The helmet with the green band is likely Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers.  The 1st Bn. Sherwood Foresters used similar markings but my reference says that was just used on helmet covers.

The rose is similar to the shoulder sleeve insignia of 1/4 S. Lancashire Regiment, and is the insignia of the 55th Division.

The grey one with the red stencil is 3rd Division Canadian Engineers.

I'll keep looking through my information to see if I can find others.

Thank you! That helps a great deal.

All other comments are still very welcome...

Cheers,

Very well spotted Stripeyman, “Lancaster” is correct, either a mistake by me whilst reading the information, or perceive text strikes again.

Regards,

Derek.

This helmet is Canadian Engineers. If the helmet is grey in colour it would be third division, if not likely 1st division, although this badge can be found painted on helmets from all the Canadian Divisions during the war. If it has a name inside you can search the Canadian Archives to determine the first owner's unit.

Good evening,

this helmet bears the Canadian Engineers badge.

Here's the badge cap:

Kind regards

Thank you. There is - unfortunatly - no name inside the helmet. I've checked it.

The other helmets seem to be more difficult!

Jan

The tunic bears the insignia of the 1/7th Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers, who joined the 42nd Division in February 1918 as Divisional Pioneers.
