 I'm trying to find the company in which my grandfather served with the 16th Middlesex . It's a long shot but here goes , he was wounded on the 24/4/1917 whilst 'going over the top' by an exploding shell . Can anyone please tell me which company(s) were in the firing line or not in the firing line on this day so as to enable me to narrow the field . Many thanks , Steve .

Hi Steve - unless someone has an original diary, notebook, platoon or company roll, you are unlikely ever to know this. The War Diary might tell which companies were in the line that day.

;) Thanks Paul ,

i know we have probably gone into this before , but am i likely to find this information in his records in WO 364 ? It's very frustrating as it feels as though i've almost got there but am unable to get my head across the finishing line .

Steve .
