Buckle Identification

Hi, Can anybody help me identifying this buckle? I don't recognise it as British, not part of the webbing I think.

The buckle was a standard type used on a number of webbing items - another good example was the 1917 onwards webbing equipment for carrying Lewis Gun drum magazines, eg:
