Hi all, I'm trying to track down when Lt Thomas Arthur Barnfield joined the 2nd Gloucesters in Salonika. I can't find the war diary at the National Archives, but perhaps someone can help locate it, or can shed any light on when this officer joined them?

Many thanks, Tom

There is a war diary for 2nd Gloucesters at Salonica but, again, alas it has not been digitised and only gettable when TNA re-opens:

His officer file at Kew should contain his service movments-again, not digitised,etc......

If you have the online stuff from Ancestry/FMP you could run the Medal Rolls and Medal Index Cards which usually/often contain the date of entry into a particular thatre of war.

That's great, thanks. I have his service file, but sadly it doesn't confirm the date he joined the 2nd Battalion, so hoping to cross reference with the War Diary. Shame it's not been digitised yet, but thanks for confirming the file reference.
