hmsk212 Posted 28 February , 2005 Share Posted 28 February , 2005 Hi I have a Silver War Badge to a man from the 4th Suffolk Regiment who served from March 1915 to June 1916. The reason for discharge is given on his Medal Index Card as Para 392 xvi but has the initials N.L.E.S. I can't be sure of what these initials mean, has anyone any theories. The best I can come up with is Not Likely to be an Efficient Soldier. (The complete reference is N.L.E.S. P392 xvi KR. R of E act 1917 P & T Dis. for M.S. 2b) The War Badge Roll itself states Med. Re-exam. & perm. unfit. 392 (xvi) 2b Steve
Captain Dave Posted 1 March , 2005 Share Posted 1 March , 2005 The area describes being invalided out of the service as their fitness has fallen below the standard which they enlisted with, or . it describes that the OC of a hospital has the authority to discharge them. I cannot find a ref for NLES, the only thing I can think of is No Longer Effective for Service.
