petet Posted 21 December , 2020 Share Posted 21 December , 2020 I am doing some research on 35 Squadron's Post War Activity and came across the term "Puff Shoot" ..... could anyone enlighten me on this activity? Regards PeteT
charlie962 Posted 21 December , 2020 Share Posted 21 December , 2020 (edited) If connected to artillery observation training, wouldn't this be a man with a cigarette under a mesh relief map, blowing smoke to represent shell splash ? Observer then reports adjustments. That's how I recall it for the gunners. Charlie Edited 21 December , 2020 by charlie962

Regards PeteT Hi Reference Artillery training and "Puff Shoot", in use during the inter-war and WW2 was the 'Haskard Range': Obviously developed from WW1 trainers, as mentioned in Porter's 'Aerial Observation', note the text reference French system then Footnote 2 reference the British 'Puff' system. The two images below are of the RFC/RAF system in use during WW1, both images were taken in Canada but it is the same British system as used in UK. I hope that helps.
