Ferguson73uk Posted 27 February , 2005 Share Posted 27 February , 2005 Evening All, A friend of mine has asked me if I can find out why his grandfather was discharged from the 4th Battalion of the Welsh Regiment on the 21st April 1916 with the rider 'Para392 (XVI) KR'. His grandfather, Private Nathaniel Burge 494, never spoke about why he was discharged. Can anyone help? Thanks, as ever, Jonathan
hmsk212 Posted 27 February , 2005 Share Posted 27 February , 2005 Para 392 xvi was discharged as " No longer physically fit for War Service" . This means he was discharged either through sickness or wounds. Steve
Ferguson73uk Posted 28 February , 2005 Author Share Posted 28 February , 2005 Thanks, Steve. Apparently, he had no physical injury and the only other written comment that follows is 'Action taken:- List TJ/5'. Jonathan
hmsk212 Posted 28 February , 2005 Share Posted 28 February , 2005 Hi Jonathan List TJ/5 is the reference number to the War Badge Roll in which his entry can be found. In this roll you should get the date he enlisted, the date he was discharged, whether or not he served abroad, his age at discharge and the reason for discharge. Sometimes these rolls give the reason in more detail than the Medal Index Card so you may be in luck if you get a copy of it from Kew. Unfortunately these rolls are not on-line.
