brianmorris547 Posted 3 December , 2020 Share Posted 3 December , 2020 I am researching the Times OCL 11/10/1916 RE wounded and trying to identify Sappers from 20 Div RE and in particular 96 FC. The wounded for 84 FC are named at the end of the WD of the 20 Div CRE and all those dated 03/09/1916 are named in the Times OCL 11/10/1916. The page for 96 FC in the CRE WD does not name wounded unfortunately. 11/10/1916 is the only OCL in which I have found men from 20 Div RE wounded at Guillemont. I attach two AF B 103 forms for two of the names in the OCL, 87038 Robert Drane (WO 363 Ancestry) and 45632 Cecil Trevivian (WO 364 Ancestry). Both were admitted to what looks like 14 CCP on 04/09/1916. I am struggling to identify this Unit. According to TLLT 14 CCS were not in France and I can not find anything on Discovery. There is also a reference to 2/2 Ldn CCS. (I have checked the WDs of RAMC 56 Div including 2/2 Ldn FA). Thank you if anyone can help. brianmorris547 Posted 4 December , 2020 Author Share Posted 4 December , 2020 (edited) Thanks for the link Terry A good read. I have seen references in WDs to Walking Wounded Collecting Posts. Brian EDIT: The 14 Div RAMC WDs of the ADMS for August and September 1916 have attached Operational Orders 38, 39 and 44 which explain the function of Collection Posts, they were mainly for walking wounded. brianmorris547 Posted 28 February , 2021 Author Share Posted 28 February , 2021 20 Div RE. For the attack on Guillemont 96 Field Co were attached to 59 Infantry Brigade, 83 Field Co were attached to 47 IB (16 Div) and 84 FC were in reserve. The wounded of 84 FC who were called up in the evening of 03/09/1916 to consolidate are named at the end of the WD of the CRE 20 Div. I am extending my enquiries to the attacking Infantry Bns of 59 Infantry Brigade (20 Div) and 47 Infantry Brigade (16 Div) and attached Units. This AF B 103 is from the Service Record of S/13933 Frederick John Avery of 12 Bn Rifle Brigade (60 IB of 20 Div but attached to 47 IB 16 Div). Courtesy TNA WO 363 Ancestry Filmstrip ref Ave 4149/9245. It identifies 14 CCP as 14 Corps Collecting Post. The WDs of 10 Bn Rifle Brigade and 11 Bn Rifle Brigade of 59 IB and 12 Bn Rifle Brigade name wounded on lists attached to their WDs. I have over 100 service and pension records so far. I am trying to establish the routes by which the wounded on 03 to 05/09/1916 were moved back to the Base Hospitals and evacuation. Brian
brianmorris547 Posted 8 March , 2021 Author Share Posted 8 March , 2021 The WD of 111 Field Ambulance (16 Div) 31/08/1916 records that the Bearer Division was ordered to go to the Citadel to join 47 Infantry Brigade and the Tented Division was to go to the Corps Main Dressing Station at Dive Copse. The WD gives co ordinates for Dive Copse as S 24 b and S 18 d. This is in the area of Waterlot Farm from this map dated 04/09/1916 in the WD of 20 Div HQ GS (courtesy TNA - Ancestry). It seems a bit close to the action for the Tented Div of 111 FA. 14 Corps Collecting Post is not mentioned but may have been part of the Tented Div. I can not find a map with Dive Copse marked. I have gone through the WDs of the assaulting units of 47 IB and 59 IB, only the Bns of the Rifle Brigade name their wounded.
brianmorris547 Posted 8 March , 2021 Author Share Posted 8 March , 2021 Just read the WD for DDMS 14 Corps WO 95/918/3 which I downloaded some days ago. Appendix to the August 1916 WD are Medical Arrangements which show the Walking Wounded Collecting Post was at Bronfay Farm F 29 b and the Main Dressing Station was at Dive Copse J 24 B. (Checked 111 FA and S 24 b and S 18 d are J 24 B and J 18 d). Dive Copse is south west of Albert as this NLS map shows. Both locations are shown Brian https://maps.nls.uk/view/101465323
