For the Canadian experience, I can recommend 'Hell in Flanders Fields - Canadians at the Second Battle of Ypres', George H. Cassar, Toronto, Dundurn Press, 2010. Very readable. It describes the formation of the 1st Canadian Division, its preparation in Canada and England, its deployment, and the details of its significant part in 2nd Ypres.

My go-to volume for the British perspective is another George Cassar book: Trial by Gas, Potomac Books, 2014.

' Mud and Khaki ' by H.S Clapham and 'Students under Arms ' by A Rule are very good on early 1915 and include 2nd Ypres . There is also Frank

Hawkins book 'From Ypres to Cambrai '  . C.V Burder's memoir 'Hell on Earth' is an excellent memoir , he was a private in the Artist Rifles and

then joined the 1/8th Middlesex as an officer ( he doesn't name it but that's the battalion i believe he was in ) and fought in every major battle

with it from Loos 1915 to Cambrai in 1917 when he was wounded .
