Guest Lee M Johnson Posted 26 February , 2005 Share Posted 26 February , 2005 I am trying to establish where my Grandfathers Company would have been when he was taken prisoner. The relevant details surrounding his capture are as follows; Neuve Eglise on the 13/04/1918. A Company, 3rd Batt Worcester Rgt. I would be happy to find anything in terms of maps trench maps or photographs relating to this immediate period. Thank you in anticipation. CROONAERT Posted 27 February , 2005 Share Posted 27 February , 2005 Lee. You can see the positions of the 3/Worcs (North of Steenwerck, a bit further south than Neuve Eglise) on the 13th April on this map from the Official History. Dave.
Guest Lee M Johnson Posted 27 February , 2005 Share Posted 27 February , 2005 Thank you, is this what people mean by a trench map, or would that have greater detail? Is the book it comes from obtainable and is it the official history of the Regt, or the war? Thanks Lee
CROONAERT Posted 27 February , 2005 Share Posted 27 February , 2005 No, this isn't a trench-map.Trenchmaps have far greater detail. For want of a better word, this is a "situation" map showing who was where and when. It's from the (British) "Official History of the War, Military Operations France and Belgium 1918 vol.III". It was re-published recently and is available from the IWM and the N&MP. Unfortunately, the maps (which are separate to the books) haven't been re-printed. Dave.
