SunDodginDoc Posted 15 November , 2020 Share Posted 15 November , 2020 Good day, all. Looking for a steer here. I'm trying to find out why L E M Green was awarded an MC. Is there a full citation? I found this from The Gazette but there's little detail. SunDodginDoc
clk Posted 15 November , 2020 Share Posted 15 November , 2020 Hi SDD, He appears to have been awarded his MC for his actions on 10.8.1917. Image sourced from the National Archives You could cross reference to the Battalion, Brigade HQ and Division HQ war diaries to see if they give you any more context. The National Archives search page is here. Regards Chris
Mark1959 Posted 15 November , 2020 Share Posted 15 November , 2020 https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C7353375 13th Cheshire War Diary. Cheshires attacked. He is named as one of about dozen officers wounded in their attack. Not much info. Probably need to look for 74th Brigade diary for context. This is a strange occupation where 2 people can have apparently similar info but one source has a key that unlocks things. I've found the diaries for the 13th Cheshires and 74th Brigade and they've given me some context as regards Westhoek Ridge.
