Came from the 'Letters Page' of a weekly part-work called 'I was There' this edition (part 31) published om 2nd May 1939. Can't find anything on Sgt Bolton, but think this may be Sgt William Boulter 6th Northamptonshire Regt and his action at Trones Wood on 14 July 1916. http://vconline.org.uk/william-e-boulter-vc/4585989066 Just goes to show, even for those that were there, memories fade...
