rebecca dilks Posted 26 February , 2005 Share Posted 26 February , 2005 Hi, My great grand father was conscripted under the military service act, I believe this to be in 1916 as he was married with children at the time. Due to the date he enlisted, im assuming that he was in one of the training reserve battalions, would this mean that he would have the prefix TRbefore his army service number? Any help would be very welcome. Becky in Leicester
Muerrisch Posted 26 February , 2005 Share Posted 26 February , 2005 I believe [this is for RWF only but may apply to others] a regimental number [not army] in the Regular series would have been allocated. RWF certainly had no TR prefix. Men were not expected to stay in a TR unit beyond initial training.
Paul Reed Posted 26 February , 2005 Share Posted 26 February , 2005 Many units adopted a TR prefix for Training Reserve battalions. I don't know of men being allocated it beyond their service in the UK. A bit more about the TR here: http://medalsfinder.bei.t-online.de/Traini...201916-1918.pdf
Muerrisch Posted 26 February , 2005 Share Posted 26 February , 2005 Paul, thank you, a lovely site. My blinkered view of the world through RWF eyes has been modified!
