chrislock Posted 25 February , 2005 Share Posted 25 February , 2005 A friend of mine has a trio and mm of 15810 LCPL Frederick Henry Greening, 10th Worcesters. He is listed as KIA 20/12/15, Neuve Chapelle! He is buried in St Vaast Post Military Cem. Can any pal help? Location of death, type of action etc? This date is way past the main battle here, or was another smaller battle or trench raid carried out on this date? Maybe a daily attrician casualty not featured anywhere! Help please? Chris. CROONAERT Posted 25 February , 2005 Share Posted 25 February , 2005 A friend of mine has a trio and mm of 15810 LCPL Frederick Henry Greening, 10th Worcesters. He is listed as KIA 20/12/15, Neuve Chapelle! Looks like a casualty of everyday trench-life. The Worcesters history for the the 10th Bn in Dec. 1915 has just this to say... "10/Worcs and the 10/R.Warwicks alternatively held trenches at Richebourg l'Avoue and billets at Richebourg St.Vaast during most of December". That's the only mention. Dave. Potter Posted 28 February , 2005 Share Posted 28 February , 2005 19th Division, 57th Brigade, of which 10 Worcesters were part. were manning trenches in the Festubert/Neuve Chapelle area from August 1915 to March 1916. At the time of death, the front line the Brigade was holding was so water logged it was a series of islands built on the original parapet. The islands were 30-50 feet apart and manned by 8 or 9 men under a NCO. The islands were conspicuous targets and casuaties were heavy. The Neuve Chapelle location is possibly wrong. The Brigade's line was around Boar's Head, south of Richebourg.
