It mentions the HUSHWAACs in WWI, these were twelve codebreakers at GHQ Intelligence who were the first female SIGINT staff of any nation to serve at the front in any war. They served as officers in the Intelligence Corps (Assistant Administrators) and wore purple shoulder straps and were paid the same rate as men. Several are named in the book.
