AGWR Posted 24 February , 2005 Share Posted 24 February , 2005 I came across a newspaper article recently, in which it was stated that married soldiers received 7s. per week, and that their wives were entitled to an allowance of 12s. 6d (3s. 6d. extra if resident in London). Further allowances were available for children, according to number. Three questions... Firstly, is the above correct? Second, what were the scales for the allowances available for children? Third, did any of these rates change at all during the war? Any help appreciated. Regards, AGWR

AGWR Posted 24 February , 2005 Author Share Posted 24 February , 2005 Doug, Thanks. I'll take a look. Great website by the way... If you ever come across a Harry Wake of the Middlesex Regiment, who was killed in action July 1916 , I would be grateful for details. He was born in Hounslow, but I have seen a postcard that describes him as being from Wolverhampton Regards, AGWR
