keithmroberts Posted 5 October , 2020 Share Posted 5 October , 2020 In normal years, without the intervention of Coronavirus the Salonika Campaign Society take part in various events in Greece at the end of September to commemorate the Bulgarian Armistice of 29 September 1918. This year most events were cancelled, other than a very much reduced one at the international memorial at Polycastro. I was able to lay a wreath at that memorial on behalf of the SCS, alongside a British officer based in Greece who laid a wreath on behalf of the United Kingdom. With the other commemorations cancelled, we also laid wreaths without ceremony at the British Memorial to the Missing at Doiran, at the Greek Memorial in Doiran, and in the Lembet Road Military Cemetery in Thessaloniki. The photograph below shows me laying the SCS wreath at the British Memorial on September 27th. I was accompanied by two SCS members who live in Thessaloniki. Gardenerbill Posted 7 October , 2020 Share Posted 7 October , 2020 Good to see that the men who gave their lives in the Balkans during the Great War were not forgotten in these difficult times.
