james drury Posted 22 September , 2020 Share Posted 22 September , 2020 Hi all, Just wondered if anyone could give any pointers for researching the ASC in Italy, I'm specifically looking at 1034 Mechanical Transport Company. Any pointers much appreciated, once again many thanks in advance for all the assistance. James
Gardenerbill Posted 22 September , 2020 Share Posted 22 September , 2020 (edited) Hi James, 'Army Service Corps 1902 1918' by Michael Young has a chapter on the ASC in Italy. 1034 gets a mention. 'The Base Supply Depot at Arquata, north of Genoa, was commanded by Lieutenant Colonel C Rowe ASC; opened in November 1917, it was part of a base complex commanded by Brigadier General E V Riddell DSO, late ASC. Heavy repair shop duties were carried out by 1081 Company and the base MT Depot by 1034 Company ASC.' Gardenerbill Posted 23 September , 2020 Share Posted 23 September , 2020 Also 'The Royal Army Service Corps; A History of Transport and Supply in the British Army' by Colonel R. H. Beadon. Volume 2 has a chapter on Italy.
Waggoner Posted 23 September , 2020 Share Posted 23 September , 2020 The RLC museum has the ASC Journals on line but you have to pay for content. A search for 1034 might turn something up. I wonder if there is a War Diary at the National Archives? All the best, Gary
