Guest CarolMills Posted 23 February , 2005 Share Posted 23 February , 2005 I was asking yesterday in another topic about a soldier I'm researching called William Hall, who served with the Royal Munster Fusiliers and was killed in Action in August 1916. It appears from 'Soldiers who died in the Great War' that he initially served in another regiment 'Lancers of the Line' with a different service number. These details are not on his medal card. He entered the theatre of war in the Balkans, 1st August 1915. Would it be at all possible to find out which regiment he was in before he joined the RMF? That is, before I begin searching for his service record at Kew. He lived in Walthamstow, and enlisted in London, if that helps. Thanks very much. HERITAGE PLUS Posted 23 February , 2005 Share Posted 23 February , 2005 Carol Cavalry Regiments of the Line were those regiments which were not Household, Special Reserve or Yeomanry. See this, which lists the Lancer Line, from the mothersite: http://www.1914-1918.net/CAVALRY/lancers.htm Dave
