David Ingleby Posted 3 September , 2020 Share Posted 3 September , 2020 A soldier I am researching was admitted to the 11th CCS at Godwaersvelde in January 1918 suffering from "PUO". There are a number of other soldiers suffering from the same. Can anyone enlighten me as to what PUO stands for, please? Many thanks David Ingleby

Robert Dunlop Posted 4 September , 2020 Share Posted 4 September , 2020 PUO is a specific concept where someone has an undiagnosed fever for more than 2 weeks (or 3 weeks where one week has been spent in hospital). It indicates that specific types of infection (such as TB or Brucellosis for example) or other illnesses, such as lymphoma (a cancer of the lymph glands), are more likely and helps doctors to shift their focus from acute infections to these other causes.
