Some photos from my recent trip to the Isonzo battlefields on the Italian Front.

Austro-Hungarian positions on Quota 588 (Mengore Hill) near Tolmin

We explored Quota 588 on horseback, which was fantastic. This is Son No.3 outside an Austro-Hungarian cavern.

Memorial to Maria Plozner Mentil, one of the female porters (portatrici Carniche) who carried supplies up to the front lines. She was killed by an Austrian sniper in February 1916 near Timau in the Carnic Alps.
