Frederick Edgar CLEEVELY was Batman to Brigadier General Ford in Egypt, 1915.

Who was Ford, please?

A suggestion - Reginald Ford, temp. Brig.-Gen. 28 August 1915 https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/29319/supplement/9868 Yet to find his M.I.C. or any connection to Egypt.

Edit: The first of his six mentions in despatches was for Egypt https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/29763/supplement/9339

Edit: Reginald Ford was the only Ford promoted to the rank of Brig.-Gen. in the Commands and Staff section of the London Gazette index from 1 January 1913 to 31 December 1915.

Brigadier General Reginald Ford was working on the MEF Lines of Communication in 1915

and there is a ref to him in this paper https://etheses.bham.ac.uk/id/eprint/6113/1/Fox-Godden15PhD.pdf see p.s 82/4

It sounds as though he was more at home on the WF, to where he returned, becoming DQMG at GHQ (Oct-Nov 1918)

Kath,

Ford also gets a few mentions in the late Col Michael Young's book on the ASC

From Young we learn that Ford's specific job within the MEF's LOC was as Director of Supplies and Transport at the MEF's base in Egypt

For the ASC, the stores and transport on the islands of Lemnos and Imbros were termed Advance Bases, and Koe [also ranked Brig Gen & also titled Director of Supplies and Transport] was in charge of these from his position at Mudros on Lemnos
