eagleeye Posted 22 February , 2005 Share Posted 22 February , 2005 Hi, My Grandfather served in three regts during the Great War. The first was the Notts & Derby (Sherwood Foresters) Pte 13370 Albert Fitzgibbon. I know that he was in the 9th Bn of that regt. He then went onto to serve in the West Yorks regt as L/Cpl 45471 and then in the North Staffs regt as L/Cpl 23488. Is there anyway of tracing which battalion's of the last two regts that he served in just from his regimental numbers. Any tips would be appreciated Rod
PPCLI Posted 24 February , 2005 Share Posted 24 February , 2005 Hi Rod, What you need is some kind person to look up the medal roll for your grandfather at The National Archives. His Medal Card (that you probably already have from DocumentsOnline) has a code next to his medal entitlement; this code can be used to find his corresponding medal roll entry, which, in most cases, will give all the battalion info. Check out some of the queries on the "Interpreting medal index cards" thread to see what I'm on about. Stuart
