CassieRae Posted 28 July , 2020 Share Posted 28 July , 2020 (edited) Hello again, looking for more help please. Looking for War diary for: Private 14372 8th Royal Berkshire. I learnt that:- The 7th and 8th (Service) battalions Royal Berkshire were both formed in September 1914 as part of Kitchener's Third New Army and both joined the 26th Division. Ancestry gives 4 options: Choose which Division 18th; 2nd;48th or 61st I am now stumped! Edited 28 July , 2020 by CasseRae alteration

Acknown Posted 28 July , 2020 Share Posted 28 July , 2020 (edited) Here they are on Ancestry: 1st Division, 1st Brigade 18th Division, 53rd Brigade When you can't see the division listed, or if the battalion is not in the divisional list, it is often parcelled with other battalions in a brigade WD. For the first one you could go to WDs, then 'Various (Infantry Brigades 1st Division)' then 'Piece 1265: 1 Infantry Brigade (1915 - 1919)'. Then it's a question of scrolling through until you get the battalion you want. An alternative is to put the WD number into the 'Keyword' box without the WD 90 so just '1265' which should bring up a page. Click the page to get into the WD, then scroll to the date you need as before. I hope that's clear!
