Henry Robinson married on the 20/03/1915 - his marriage certificate shows that he was a Private in the Kings Royal Rifles and stationed at Quebec Barracks, Bordon, Hampshire. Searches have failed to find any record of him in the KRR.

The birth certificate of his first born in early 1916 records him as the father and being 'Private, 2nd Northants Regiment, Mechanical Engineer'. A search of records has a medal card which maybe him and also the the medal rolls.

The medal card shows 'North'n R Pte 35675' and 'Lab. C. 86163'

The medal rolls shows the same info. The rolls also shows that he was one of many that transferred into the labour corps at the same time.

The Long Long Trail shows that his service number of 86163 was within the allocation of new numbers for men transferring from Northamptonshire Regiment 6th Labour Infantry Company to the 144 Labour Company.

My questions are:

  • Does anyone have an idea when the service number of 35675 was issued?
  • The Long Long Trail shows that Labour Companies came into being under Army Council Instruction 611 of 1917 - what would have been the effective date for this?

Apologies if my post is a bit long winded.

Hi Allan1892,

He has some surviving service papers - link. With a bit of a squint you can just about make out his key dates and units.

Edit:

His discharge address is given as 526 Kingston Road, Raynes Park. Does that tie back?
