Remembered Today:

Orginal German Pay book - translation & help please..

Good Morning,

The pictures attached are of an original German paybook. It came into the possession of Cpl. Charles Robertson Dick, 27 Field Ambulance on 21/ 22 March 1917, when that unit was at Haute Avesnes. The original owner of these papers, I believe, was taken prisoner in the attack on the German trenches by 11th Royal Scots on 21 March 1917.

The granddaughter of Cpl. Dick would like to return the paybook to the descendants of its original owner. I have pointed out this is a long shot - but if you don't try....

Anyway, I am hoping that some kind person could translate any relevant parts for me. Odd bits, like his date of birth, unit and surname (I think its Friebel) even I can get. But I cannot read / understand his christian name or much of anything else. I did have a quick look on the Volksbund site and cannot find a name that looks anything like that on these papers, but then I cannot find a name anything like Friebel on the red Cross POW's site.

And if anyone knows anything about German census returns that also would be a help.

Any information / pointers would be very gratefully received!

Simon

AOK - many thanks for that. Not sure I would ever have got that far.

Cheers,

Simon

Distribution of the surname Friebel in Germany (via www.kartenzunamen.eu )

Quite a few of them in Sachsen.

And there's a florist/garden centre in Taura (where Chlotar's father lived) with the surname Friebel !

They may be related, who knows?

Only one way to find out; thanks to both of you.
