BabaAndrew Posted 18 July , 2020 Share Posted 18 July , 2020 I would be most grateful if anyone could share information about the composition (war establishment) of Field Survey Companies of the Royal Engineers. Also, if anyone has photos that they would be will to share, this would be appreciated. Any information or photos welcome!
SapperBoo Posted 18 July , 2020 Share Posted 18 July , 2020 The war establishment varied as the as the war progressed culminating in the Field Survey Companies becoming Field Survey Battalions. https://www.nzsappers.org.nz/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/ReportSurveyWesternFront14-18.pdf Are you looking for anything in particular? Ron Clifton Posted 19 July , 2020 Share Posted 19 July , 2020 Establishments at various times: Field Survey Company March 1916: 3 officers and 15 men Sept 1916: 9 officers and 67 men Dec 1916: 6 officers and 78 men April 1917: 6 officers and 80 men Field Survey Battalion August 1918: 21 officers and 249 men. At the end of the war each Army had one Field Survey Battalion. There were slightly different, and larger, establishments for the FS Companies in Egypt, Salonika and Italy, doubtless due to the greater need to draw newer maps.
