PFF Posted 20 February , 2005 Share Posted 20 February , 2005 In a printed volume of the R.F. SDGW there were several entries listing previous regiments. One thing that puzzled me is the fact that there two service numbers- I thought that there was a rule that no matter if a soldier was transfered to another regiment-he would still have the same service number. Not in WW1 - there were no 'service' numbers only regimental numbers, which were different for every regiment (although similar patterns were followed). Normally within a regiment a number wouldn't change, except for Territorials, but if he transferred to a new unit, then he would have a new number. 'Unique' numbers did not come in until after WW1.
