Guest Simon Bull Posted 19 February , 2005 Share Posted 19 February , 2005 I have read recently (in outline) that one of the last aristocratic soldiers whose body was repatriated was William Gladstone (the grandson of the deceased Prime Minister) whose body was brought back as late as April 1915. The summary I saw said that this repatriation aroused great controversy, which had the effect of ensuring that there would not be any more such repatriations. Does anyone know of a clear account of these events? I am interested in this as a piece of World War 1 history and also because Gladstone grand-pere is something of a hero of mine.
