I was trying to find out about Brig Paul Louis Papegay but can’t find anything I think it depends if you mean General de Brigade? If so then it’s yes. There is another rank, Brigadier, which I seem to recall was a NCO. Edited 4 July , 2020 by FROGSMILE

Here is the man on Memoire des Hommes and a little bit of research here. Charlie Edited 4 July , 2020 by charlie962
Keith_history_buff Posted 4 July , 2020 Share Posted 4 July , 2020 A <<Brigadier>> is a Corporal in the French or Belgian armies, specifically within the cavalry or artillery. Their equivalent of sergeant is <<Maréchal des Logis>>

healdav Posted 6 July , 2020 Share Posted 6 July , 2020 You need to be very careful with the rank of Brigadier. In the Gendarmerie it is the equivalent of Constable! I would guess that here it is a regimental title for Private or similar (bit like Bombardier or Sapper). I haven't looked them man up in the records. charlie962 Posted 6 July , 2020 Share Posted 6 July , 2020 (edited) The Medaille Militaire that you show with citation does indeed seem to be signed by the Colonel of the 52eme Colonial, Lt Col Petitdemange. Well worth holding onto medal and Document. It looks like the first day of the Regiment's first action of the war, in the 2nd Battle of Champagne (!!) for which the Regiment as a whole gained a citation of the order of the Army for the period 25/9-6/10/15. Here is the Regimental History. How's your French ? Charlie Edited 6 July , 2020 by charlie962
AOK4 Posted 6 July , 2020 Share Posted 6 July , 2020 The award is for an action at the Ferme de Navarin, that's no where near Loos...
