ResearcherDave Posted 5 June , 2020 Share Posted 5 June , 2020 (edited) I've had this ring for years. No one had ever been able to tell me if it is genuine or fake. I've always wondered if the war ended for this soldier in 1917. I think it's pewter, although not sure. I got it at an antiques fair, but the stallholder knew nothing about it. I'm assuming it's German, looking at the colours. I would love to discover the ring of truth! Edited 5 June , 2020 by ResearcherDave
FROGSMILE Posted 5 June , 2020 Share Posted 5 June , 2020 (edited) It has more the look of a French or even Dutch (who were of course neutral) piece, rather than British item. Even the numbering has a continental look. Is there a makers mark on the inside? Edited 5 June , 2020 by FROGSMILE
ResearcherDave Posted 5 June , 2020 Author Share Posted 5 June , 2020 I'm assuming it's German, looking at the colours. I should have made that clear. I'll put that in the post.

It certainly has the appearance of a genuine item to me. Edited 5 June , 2020 by FROGSMILE
ResearcherDave Posted 5 June , 2020 Author Share Posted 5 June , 2020 (edited) There is a tiny mark inside, but I think it may just be age related... Edited 5 June , 2020 by ResearcherDave

FROGSMILE Posted 5 June , 2020 Share Posted 5 June , 2020 Just now, ResearcherDave said: I see a slight mark, but I think it is age related... You would need to use a powerful magnifier like a ‘linen tester’ to see it properly. They are excellent for detailed study of contemporary photographs too. ResearcherDave Posted 5 June , 2020 Author Share Posted 5 June , 2020 I have it on the desk in my office, with the box open. It's a good conversation starter!
