Remembered Today:

The ring of truth...

I've had this ring for years. No one had ever been able to tell me if it is genuine or fake. I've always wondered if the war ended for this soldier in 1917. I think it's pewter, although not sure.  I got it at an antiques fair, but the stallholder knew nothing about it. I'm assuming it's German, looking at the colours.  I would love to discover the ring of truth!

It has more the look of a French or even Dutch (who were of course neutral) piece, rather than British item.  Even the numbering has a continental look.  Is there a makers mark on the inside?

I'm assuming it's German, looking at the colours. I should have made that clear. I'll put that in the post.

Ah yes I can see it’s black (rather than blue) white and red now, which fits with the numbering style when I look more carefully.  It certainly has the appearance of a genuine item to me.

There is a tiny mark inside, but I think it may just be age related...

A pity, but it’s still a nice piece to have.

You would need to use a powerful magnifier like a ‘linen tester’ to see it properly.  They are excellent for detailed study of contemporary photographs too.
