maudson Posted 5 June , 2020 Share Posted 5 June , 2020 I am researching a man from Ringstead in Northamptonshire, called Arthur Edwin Wittering, who had moved to Draycott in Derbyshire at the time of enlistment. He joined the RFC on the 2nd January 1917 and became an "Air Mechanic 2 Trade- Miscellaneous (Shoemaker)".on the 7th (I think) June 1917 and given service number 56761.He was transferred to the RAF on the 1st April 1918. He was transferred to the RAF G Reserve on 7th February 1919 and finally deemed discharged on 30th April 2020. I cannot find a medal card for him. Would I be safe to assume that he did not serve in a warzone? Is there any way I can find this out? Would he have been employed actually mending shoes or would his skills have been used in aircraft repair etc? Any guidance welcome David
