Gaillimh1 Posted 1 June , 2020 Share Posted 1 June , 2020 Researching Arthur Corrie Lewin, Kings Liverpool Regiment 1895, 19th Hussars, Commanding 3rd Battalion of the Connaught Rangers. Served in Boer War and in WW1. Took up flying at 57. I have a lot of information but I came across a curious piece of information in an old obituary in an Irish paper. He lived in Castlegrove House Tuam Galway and in Cloghans House Mayo. He went to Kenya under a soldier settlement scheme. The obituary stated he was offered command of the Free State Irish Army but turned it down. He was not in favour of the treaty conditions but there is also some record that he he wrote letters to the British Government to free some old Rangers in British jails after the Indian mutiny. I believe there was a piece written in one of the old Connaught Ranger journals. If anyone has any knowledge of the Free State offer or any of the above it would be helpful.
