mickey selcon Posted 28 May , 2020 Share Posted 28 May , 2020 HI I wonder whether anyone can tell me when the Imperial Service Badge was first authorised? I understood that it was issued to men of the TF who volunteered for overseas service after the start of WW1, but were they issued pre WW1? The reason I ask is that I have a postcard photo of a man in the 1/7th Middlesex Regiment relaxing in camp with his mates that is dated 19/07/1914 in which he and another soldier both appear to be wearing the badge on their tunics. The stacked rifles next to them look to be 'long Lee Enfields' which might help to date it pre the beginning of the War? Thanks and best regards Mike
Pat Atkins Posted 28 May , 2020 Share Posted 28 May , 2020 (edited) They were issued pre-War - Forum Pal Tony Brayley has posted a picture of a good 1912 example in this fascinating thread. No idea when they were first instituted, though, I'm afraid. Cheers, Pat. Edit: Wikipedia (I know, I know) says it was first issued 1910 Edited 28 May , 2020 by Pat Atkins
