Mark1959 Posted 25 May , 2020 Share Posted 25 May , 2020 The son. WW1 era uniform but cannot say I am an expert. Father’s WW1 papers shows he declared previous service in 3rd VB Battalion South Staffs.VB = Volunteer Battalion. These were a precursor to the Territorial Force. So not full time service. Could be embodied (Called up) to serve if required.
FROGSMILE Posted 25 May , 2020 Share Posted 25 May , 2020 (edited) The photo shows the son I think. He’s dressed for walking-out (of barracks) and going by his appearance with a probable date of 1915, and very likely not that long before embarking for France and Flanders. He’s wearing a 1905 pattern cap, an 08 web belt and has his puttees tied in a fashion popular with experienced soldiers and related to a technique of bandage wrapping that was taught in First Aid training.
