janet00 Posted 17 May , 2020 Share Posted 17 May , 2020 Pte 6442 Felix George Green was in the 8th London Regt (Post Office Rifles). Felix was in France from 1st Sept 1916 until 7th Oct 1916 when he was Killed in Action aged 32. I have his medal roll (British & Victory therefore not in France 14/15) plus another document says he was formerly 3229 6th East Surrey Reg, which had their HQ at Kingston on Thames Barracks. I would like to read the War Diary over the period of time he was in France but am a bit confused! The National Archives search in WO95 series says the 1/8 Batt London Regiment (Post Office Rifles) WO 95/2731 dont include Sept to Dec 1916 which I want. On researching the Long Trail, I think the 8th amalgamated at that time with 140th 47th (2nd London) Div. So, I have downloaded that diary WO 2729/3 and on the 7th October it does in fact mention 8th London. Have I interpreted all this correctly, and that it is describing the actions where my family member was killed? Also, can anyone tell from his military numbers when he signed up? Or any other bits of info? Many thanks Janet

janet00 Posted 18 May , 2020 Author Share Posted 18 May , 2020 Many thanks for this! I had the ancestry stuff but didn’t know about the HQ diary which I have now downloaded (FREE at the moment yay!) I also didn’t know anything about the maps which are really useful. I shall check that site now for all ‘my’ soldiers. Best wishes Janet
