seaJane Posted 6 May , 2020 Share Posted 6 May , 2020 (edited) I've had no luck with this in the 'Soldiers and their units' sub-forum so take the liberty of reposting it here. Is any kind person able to give me some detail on the movements of the 9th Lancashire Fusiliers in Egypt between January and July 1916? After that period they embarked at Alexandria for Marseilles and thence the Western Front, but all LLT says about their time in Egypt is "in defence of the Suez Canal". Any help much appreciated. HERITAGE PLUS Posted 6 May , 2020 Share Posted 6 May , 2020 (edited) seaJane. They landed at Alexandria in January and were then stationed at Minden Camp at El Ferdan and later moved to Kantara. Sorry I don't have any timings for these postings. Suez Canal defence was divided into into three sectors. No. 1 (Southern) sector, with its headquarters at Suez covered the area from Suez to Kabrit, No. 2 (Central) sector, with its headquarters at Ismailia, covered the area from Kabrit to El Ferdan, and No. 3 (Northern) sector, with its headquarters at Port Said covered the area from El Ferdan to Port Said. The No. 3 sector also had an advanced headquarters at Kantara. Dave Edited 6 May , 2020 by HERITAGE PLUS
