Terry Carter Posted 15 February , 2005 Share Posted 15 February , 2005 Does any forum member know of any lists containing the amount of Reservists each battalion needed to be at full strength prior to going to France in August 1914. If this question has been asked before, please forgive me... its me age! Regards Terry
Muerrisch Posted 15 February , 2005 Share Posted 15 February , 2005 No, but most 2 battalion regiments had about 1500 reservists plus 500 SR. by my calculations and this more or less fits the official view that every battalion [of 1000 men] would need 80% reinforement in the first year of a European war. All reservists were called up. My lot, RWF, two battalions, needed about 800 to come to strength. Not unusual.
Terry Carter Posted 15 February , 2005 Author Share Posted 15 February , 2005 Thanks David The reason I ask is because I have been looking at the casualty lists in the Birmingham papers for the early part of the war and it seems every casualty mentioned was a reservist. Essexboy68 Posted 16 February , 2005 Share Posted 16 February , 2005 Terry I cannot tell the numbers, but my relative (listed on my signature before) was a reservist who, sadly, didn't last very long. Maybe the men were out of "practice", hence the reason they fell first??? Cheers Mark
