Chris Posted 15 February , 2005 Share Posted 15 February , 2005 Hi all A recent topic on trawlers prompted me to try and find out about the above named vessel, but i have drawn a blank. Can anyone tell me any information at all on the above vessel, such as service, names of crew, where based etc. Any info gratefully appreciated Chris
kin47 Posted 15 February , 2005 Share Posted 15 February , 2005 Hello ANDREW KING was a MERSEY class Admiralty trawler. Launched on 19 April 1917 and built at Cochrane. Post war, she was renamed OUSE and was lost in the Med in 1941 off Tobruk. No deaths are shown in ANDREW KING, combat related or natural. don
Chris Posted 17 February , 2005 Author Share Posted 17 February , 2005 Hi kin Many thanks for that info greatly appreciated. Do you know of any good sources for reading background info on the role of Trawlers such as Andrew King in WW1 Cheers Chris
kin47 Posted 17 February , 2005 Share Posted 17 February , 2005 Hello The official history of the war: THE MERCHANT NAVY in three volumes by Archibald Hurt gives some good information on the trawler/drifter participation. The books were published in the early 20s, but seem plentiful as they appear often in book lists. don

Malcolm Posted 17 February , 2005 Share Posted 17 February , 2005 Nothing extra to add to Don's info except its Admiralty No was 3545 and it was lost to a mine in February 1941. Aye Malcolm
