Derek Robertson Posted 14 February , 2005 Share Posted 14 February , 2005 Can anyone tell me the location of the Wellington Regiment, NZEF on the 23rd May, 1916? And is their a diary available for the regiment anywhere?
CROONAERT Posted 14 February , 2005 Share Posted 14 February , 2005 They (the 1st Wellingtons) were in billets in Armentieres after having been relieved in the front-line by the 1st Canterbury's on the night of 20/21st May. They were (in rotation) holding a small sector "in depth", in a salient that was known as "the Mushroom" (trenches 67 - 72 inclusive). They didn't return to the front until the night of 28/29th May. Captain Dave Posted 17 February , 2005 Share Posted 17 February , 2005 Thanks for the heads up. I was using this page as a web ref. http://www.greatwar.org.nz/offuni.htm I KNEW that there had to be an official history in circulation, as the other three provincial Infantry Regiments all had their own. (The Aucks had two!) The problem is that I am too busy (not lazy, just busy I wish to emphisise) to trot on down to the local library and check them out physicaly.
