Can anyone tell me the location of the Wellington Regiment, NZEF on the 23rd May, 1916?

And is their a diary available for the regiment anywhere?

They (the 1st Wellingtons) were in billets in Armentieres after having been relieved in the front-line by the 1st Canterbury's on the night of 20/21st May. They were (in rotation) holding a small sector "in depth", in a salient that was known as "the Mushroom" (trenches 67 - 72 inclusive). They didn't return to the front until the night of 28/29th May.

Centre of scan - "The Mushroom" (just down the road from la Chappelle d'Armentieres).

2nd New Zealand Brigade

2nd Battalion, Wellington Regiment (to 1st NZ Bde, Jan 1917)

1st Battalion, Canterbury Regiment (from 1st NZ Bde, Jan 1917)

2nd Battalion, Canterbury Regiment

2nd Battalion, Auckland Regiment (to 1st NZ Bde, Jan 1917)

The Wellington Regiment, NZEF, 1914-18 by W.H.Cunningham DSO, C.A.L.Treadwell OBE and J.S.Hanna.

This is available in re-print from the N&MP.

Thanks for the heads up. I was using this page as a web ref.

http://www.greatwar.org.nz/offuni.htm

I KNEW that there had to be an official history in circulation, as the other three provincial Infantry Regiments all had their own. (The Aucks had two!)

The problem is that I am too busy (not lazy, just busy I wish to emphisise) to trot on down to the local library and check them out physicaly.
