Chris_Baker Posted 17 April , 2020 Share Posted 17 April , 2020 Bombing raid over Bailleul, night of 6-7 July 1917. Five waves of raid reported. I'd be grateful for any information about which German unit carried out the raid. I am writing an article about its effects.
AOK4 Posted 17 April , 2020 Share Posted 17 April , 2020 Hello Chris, I assume you mean Bailleul in the Departement Nord (and not Bailleul near Arras)? I would say Kagohl I would have been responsible. Unfortunately I don't have the weekly report of the air war of 4. Armee for the week including 6/7 July, but previous and following weekly reports mention Kagohl I bombing Bailleul. Cheers, Jan
fetubi Posted 17 April , 2020 Share Posted 17 April , 2020 From AIR1, according to replies sought from the Reichsarchiv in 1924, the only raid listed for 6/7 July 17 was an attack on Bray Dunes Aerodrome, by No.23 Kampfstaffel, of 6 DFWs. 750kg bombs were dropped. Does that help? Prob not! Trevor
Chris_Baker Posted 17 April , 2020 Author Share Posted 17 April , 2020 Thank you all. It is indeed Bailleul (Nord) to which I refer. The raid was the most costly in terms of lives lost of any that hit a CCS in Flanders in the period July-November 1917.
