bonzillou Posted 13 April , 2020 Share Posted 13 April , 2020 Hello in his book "British Mark IV Tank" (Osprey Publishing) david Fletcher mentions: Each one of these tanks had a 1.5-ton fascine perched on top of its cab and Cambrai was the only occasion when this device was used by tanks in this way. I was surprised by this as we seenumerous pics of tanks equipped with fascines. Any advice on it? Pascal
delta Posted 16 April , 2020 Share Posted 16 April , 2020 David is correct but, in 1918 tanks were equipped with something similar, known as a crib, to breach the Hindenburg line south east of Cambrai.
bonzillou Posted 16 April , 2020 Author Share Posted 16 April , 2020 Hello Delta yes I've seen pics of tanks equipped with cribs. Two questions: -was it a one shot use ( as for the fascines at Cambrai)? Was it used on mark IV and/or Mark V? cheers Pascal
delta Posted 17 April , 2020 Share Posted 17 April , 2020 Tank battalions were either equipped with Mark IV or Mark Vs so they could have been used by either in Sep 1918. That said, I have not seen any images of Mark IV so equipped. As for reuse, I don't know but I think it unlikely
