From one Hampshire hog to another - thank you Alan ;)

BH is Bull House farm - north of the Long Siberia range at Bisley ( and now close to the prison)

Canada Farm was the location of D Company HQ on the Elveden training area; the men were camped by John o'Groats cottage,

Reg was far from the only one of the First Tank Crews who was late back from leave

He is remembered inside St Swithun-upon-kingsgate church which is about 20 yards from where 1 College Street stood.

Two years down the line, and having completely forgotten this thread, this morning Mrs Broomfield and I popped into Winchester to go to the Farmer's Market (she wouldn't let me buy one, though), and, while strolling back to the car, we noticed a sign indicating that St Swithun Upon Kingsgate is open - we'd never even noticed it before!

We went in for a nose (it's beautiful), and hey presto, the memories came flooding back: THIS was on the wall (sorry - it will not load in an upright position!)

Thank you for remembering him

I retain very fond boyhood memories of that part of Winchester - still my favourite part of the city.

Thanks for posting Steven.

I suspect it was carved by one of the other 6 brothers, being a family of wood carvers.

Must get up there to see it myself - never been inside St. Swithuns.

First Sunday of each month is the antiques market in the High Street.
