Two years down the line, and having completely forgotten this thread, this morning Mrs Broomfield and I popped into Winchester to go to the Farmer's Market (she wouldn't let me buy one, though), and, while strolling back to the car, we noticed a sign indicating that St Swithun Upon Kingsgate is open - we'd never even noticed it before! We went in for a nose (it's beautiful), and hey presto, the memories came flooding back: THIS was on the wall (sorry - it will not load in an upright position!) I suspect it was carved by one of the other 6 brothers, being a family of wood carvers. Must get up there to see it myself - never been inside St. Swithuns. First Sunday of each month is the antiques market in the High Street.
