Well to kick the ball into play [now that the football season is temporarily suspended due to coronavirus] Would be great to see the other side of the card/photo please - especially if a photo of a soldier Meantime - there is a MIC for an Alexander Leslie, #4966 Scottish Horse [also #315887 Royal Highlanders] - could this be your man? https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/D3650901 :-) M Edit: think the suggestion below for "Lesslie" is probably a better contender [as men usually spell their surname right - unlike when I first erroneously typed 'Leslie' into my first search! :-/] Edited 13 March , 2020 by Matlock1418 Edit. david murdoch Posted 13 March , 2020 Share Posted 13 March , 2020 (edited) The medal roll certainly fits. 1/1 Scottish Horse morphing into 13th Black Watch in October 1916. Looking at Scotlands People there are only a couple of Alexander G. Lesslie to choose from In both cases the middle name appears to be Gilchrest. This one looks to be Alexander Gilchrest Lesslie - born 1/4/1892 in St Andrew, Dundee. He married Isabel H. Mitchell 17/10/1914 in Perth. He was then aged 22 and a hairdresser to trade (like his father) but also notes he was a Trooper in 4th Scottish Horse. He had a Dundee address, but given residence as being Scone Camp (just outside Perth) - So likely territorial and mobilised at this time. He is registered as dying (gent's hairdresser retired) in 14/6/1967 at "Hayhoe"(cottage), Trottick, Inchture, Longforgan, Perthshire. Apparently the Lesslie Hairdressing business was quite well known in Wellgate, Dundee for several generations. clk Posted 13 March , 2020 Share Posted 13 March , 2020 Hi, If he were to be the 3809 1/1 Scottish Horse man, it looks like he must have been posted to them after 1915, as he doesn't appear to have qualified for the 14/15 Star. So presumably wouldn't have been sent out with them to Gallipoli in August 1915. The 14/15 Star roll (link) shows...
