I am a volunteer researcher for the RWF and have been researching a friend's WW1 medals and found a victory medal for Pte Herbert Jones 6000 Liverpool Regiment. We don't know why this medal is in the box with her grandfather's RWF medals. We would like to reunite this medal with any family member if possible. I have contacted Liverpool museum who have declined the offer. He was born in 1896 in Bootle and attested with the 7th battalion on February 14th 1916 and arrived in France in 1916. He was killed on August 16th 1916 and is remembered at Thiepval. If any relatives or close friends would like the medal please get in touch.

Welcome!

For what it is worth, parents Edward Albert and Mary were still living at the same address in the 1939 register, both retired.  He was one of at least 5 children (census returns) so perhaps the chances of descendants still being in the area are fairly good?  Have you tried local papers?

Possible family tree on Ancestry, also 46 Chelsea Rd in Litherland still exists(see google maps), perhaps telephone books might tell you how long the Jones' lived there and who,

or the Liverpool Electoral Rolls.

Mike, just been to the library and the Cundall Family Tree on Ancestry is the correct family. If you have a subscription to Ancestry you can contact the tree owner.

The service records on Ancestry also say his mother Mrs M.Jones received both his Victory and British medals in March 1921.

best of luck
